The 2011 NASA ND State Powerlifting meet was
held at the Minot YMCA on cold, windy, blizzardy
day. 19 lifters braved the weather to compete.
We had some very fine performances such as,
Paul Kadlec from Grand Forks, who squatted and
deadlifted 501 at 165. Paul was the unequipped PL
Best Lifter. Jared Miller had a good debut with a
huge 341 bench. Mike Southard came all the way
from St Cloud to put on a great display of form
and power! Crowd favorite, Tony Cooper, came
back bigger and stronger than his last meet in
December! The Johnson boys from Grand Forks
did some fine lifting again.
Minot Y lifters, Bethany Iverson, Brandon Hovda,
Matt Popham, Josiah Roise all had big days with
several state records and some American Records.
Minot High School lifters, Colton Razo and Rob
Wagner, opened people's eyes with their good
form and great strength for jr's in High School.
M3 lifter, Lee Tangelin from Devils Lake had a
huge day with his 270 bench and 402 deadlift.
Josiah Roise ruled the Bench Only division with a
outstanding 325 weighing 173. Josiah won the
Best Lifter in Bench Only.
Josiah also won the leader in powersports
winning the Best Lifter and setting American and
state records several events.
I would like to thank the Minot Y for allowing us to
have the meet and for all its support for
powerlifting in Minot.
Thanks go to all the volunteers that helped put on
the meet- Desk, Doreen Clock, Kathie Eslinger,
Jen Kegley. Loader/spotters- Tracy Larson and
John Apland. Judges- Bill Johnson and Spence
Danielson. Special thanks go out to Brandon
Hovda for his help setting up the meet.
We hope to have the CAN AM in October, more to
come on this meet.
